       Beacon Status
The Beacon Council Scheme was introduced as a result of the Government's 1998 White Paper 'Modernising Local Government: In Touch with the People'. The aim of the scheme is to identify centres of excellence in local government from which other councils can learn.

The Northamptonshire Pocket Parks Scheme was awarded Beacon Status in April 2002 for Improving Urban Green Spaces.

To achieve the award, the scheme demonstrated that through a consultative and community partnership approach it has developed parks and green spaces that are well-maintained, used, safe and accessible.

As recipients of Beacon status, the county council are running a series of events for people with an interest in establishing Pocket Parks. For more information go to the Event Calendar.

Alternatively, if you want to know more but are unable to attend one of the events, please give the Beacon Co-ordinator a call on 01604 236374. We are happy to arrange visits/workshops for individuals or small groups.
