       Forming a Management Group
From the beginning Northamptonshire County Council requires each Pocket Park to have a management group comprising a minimum of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer.

This group is needed in order to:
  • ensure continuity of knowledge and experience

  • make decisions that will affect the Pocket Park

  • apply for grant aid

  • encourage new people to stand for office

  • spread the workload
Building a solid foundation at the start is important as it will make it easier to manage the Pocket Park and help to ensure its long-term sustainability. We also require groups to have a written management plan and recommend that they adopt a written constitution.

We advise groups to discuss their proposals, in advance of any public neighbourhood meeting, with key local people and with any groups or organisations that may be able to assist with the formation of the Pocket Park. These key people need to be identified, as the management group will take on the freehold/leasehold as well as public liability insurance for the site.

The BTCV can give advice on forming a group and it has a national network of voluntary groups. The Parish or Town Council can provide expertise and possibly some resources.
