Brigstock Pocket Park
     Print This Page
Brigstock Pocket Park is mainly hawthorn scrub and grassland. It lies between the village and the bypass. The grassland meadows are cut under a regime where the fodder provides food for local animals as well as helping to encourage wildflowers. The meadow has been planted with cowslips and now provides a haven for butterflies, birds, foxes and people.
Access Point
Off Barnards Way via Brigstock village and the footbridge from Brigstock Country Park.
Rights of Way
Footpath from village and from Country Park (MK6).
Suitability
Access not always suitable for wheelchair users.
History
The Pocket Park was originally part of the Country Park until 1984 when the site was split by the construction of a bypass. Prior to this the site was a sand stone quarry with Pocket Park land left at the edge of the extraction area.
Management Objectives
The site is managed under a regime of grass cutting. The central area is cut short and left for local children as a play area. The rest of the site is split into two areas, a spring meadow and a summer meadow. This increases the diversity of wildflowers at the site and, with further tree planting and scrub clearance, the Pocket Park is managed for accessibility and enjoyment for the public.
Special Wildlife
Cowslips, Lesser Knapweed, Oxeye Daisy, Yellowhammers, Chaffinches, Fox, Shrew.
