A New Casual Classic Card Game

A New Casual Classic Card Game

, by Jason Wong, 1 min reading time

One of my favorite games growing up was Chinese Mahjong. It still remains one of my favorite games, but I really only get to play a handful of times of year. Why? Well if you are familiar with the game then you understand there are actually quite a few barriers to entry. You NEED to have:

  • The heavy tiles in hand
  • Exactly 4 people that know how to play
  • A square table that is not too big and not too small
  • At least 2-3 hours to really get into it

In the middle of the night while visiting my 23rd national park—Olympic National Park— I was thinking about all the parks I have seen and experienced and said to myself "wow, there are a lot of interesting similarities and differences with these parks" I jolted up out of bed and immediately began scraping together the inner workings of a national park card game that borrows from a lot of my favorite feelings when playing MahJong. While developing PocketParks I tried to break all the barriers of MahJong.

PocketParks is

  • Travel-sized — just cards in a box
  • Flexible player count — 2-5 players
  • Accessible — Easy-to-learn and playable on any table
  • Fast play on the go — rounds can be played in as short as 5-10 mins

Feel free to learn more with the downloadable PocketParks rules booklet as well as discover other ways you can play using the same deck of cards with more ways to play
